About the Author

R.V. ("Dick") Dietrich (b. 1924) received his A.B. from Colgate University and his M.S. and Ph.D. (geology) from Yale University.
He is the author or co-author of more than two hundred professional papers and several books,
some of which have been translated into German, Japanese, Malaysian and Russian.
